Kmart's Big Layaway Giveaway! 9/9~11/17

Have you ever been unable to place an item on layaway and missed out on the chance of buying it? Kmart’s layaway program allows you to put virtually anything on layaway. You can do it in store or online! The service fee is only $5 and is included in your down payment. BUT, layaway fees are waived through 11/17/12!! The down payment is $15 or 10% (whichever is greater) and is due at the time an item is put on layaway. I never tried to put anything on layaway because I never took the time to find out how inexpensive it is! Kmart’s layaway program is 8 weeks long and you make 4 payments, one every two weeks. This is perfect for me because I get paid every 2 weeks. Layaway is a great alternative to putting an item on a credit card. Let’s do some math. As an example, I will use this LeapPad 2 that retails for $99.99. The holidays are almost here and this would make a great Christmas gift. 10% of the price would be less than $15, so my down payment is $15. I would then make 4 payments of around $23 and my item would be available for pickup on 11/11 if I put it on layaway today. Sounds pretty good to me!Put  your holiday gifts on layaway at Kmart now!

I’ve shopped around and Kmart’s layaway program is the most convenient for me. Walmart has a minimum purchase amount of $15 items and $50 total purchase. Toys R Us advertises "free layaway" on their website, but says see store for details. Best Buy is even worse for your electronics. The down payment is 25% of the item price with an additional 5% non-refundable layaway fee. The minimum purchase is $250.
